Problem posing statement update
As I was working I changed my problem statement:
Chosen Place: Performing Arts Center Room 1721 Rehearsal Space
Define: a room made and used for performance, rehearsal, and class. A space for creative exploration and creation
Problem:
How does theatre create a new world for an audience? Can we make the audience see what we (as actors) see? How does an art that is so ephemeral make a lasting impact?
Theatre is a very temporary and transformative art. We take space and turn it into new places, sometimes without sets, props and costumes. This is especially true is rehearsal. How can an actor working a such a neutral space, such as room 1721, create a fantastical place, such as the one we are creating in our production of Shakespeare's The Tempest.
This is a struggle for every actor in rehearsal, how can we create an imaginary space in our mind to interact with and then, in turn, make an audience believe it and maybe even see it too.
A rehearsal space is a blank slate for actors and directors to paint their own imagination onto and create a world where
This problem is solved by convincing an audience of the reality of the space the actor has created in their own mind. Showing how the space transforms for an actor when they are creating a scene in the space.
